Twitter is a social media site for microblogging, using messages known as "tweets" that are public by default. Tweets were originally limited to 140 text characters upon the service's launch in 2006, but support photo attachments since June 2011, and video since January 2015. In November 2017, Twitter increased the standard character limit to 280 characters.
Since disbanding, BarlowGirl has minimized its use of Twitter.
The sisters have lost many of their followers after peaking in May 2015. During that month, Alyssa had 23.3K followers, Lauren had 27.4K, and Rebecca had 22.5K. As of October 2019, Lauren is down to 24.1K followers, a 12.1% loss, while Rebecca is down to 18.7K followers, a 16.9% loss.
Rebecca Barlow's account was compromised on July 1, 2016. Barlow regained possession of her account on the same day. The band's Twitter account, which uses the handle @BarlowGirl, was compromised by Fine Art Globe on October 8, 2018. This account remains inaccessible to BarlowGirl as of October 2019.
